Coach Boo Mitchell- Head Coach firstname.lastname@example.org
Coach Gerald “Boo” Mitchell has always had a passion for physical fitness, training, and helping others to get better! He began his athletic career at the age of four playing football at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, GA. With three older brothers and one younger brother, he found himself in the position of being able to train with and learn from the older brothers while teaching and mentoring his younger brother what he had learned from his older siblings. As a youth, “Coach Boo” (as he is now affectionately known) played football, baseball and basketball for the Moody Air Force Base youth leagues, and he was a stand-out athlete in all three sports.
When he reached High School, “Coach Boo” made the decision to pursue football because it was his favorite sport. He is a very proud graduate of Lowndes High School where he played quarterback, wide receiver, defensive back, and return specialist. After a very successful academic and athletic career at LHS, “Coach Boo” earned an athletic scholarship to Vanderbilt University. He was able to continue his athletic success there while earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. He was on the ALL-Freshmen SEC Team, First Team ALL-SEC, Two-Time SEC Offensive Player of the Week, and Vanderbilt Team Most Valuable Player amongst other accolades during his career. His Senior season, “Coach Boo” set both the ALL-TIME Vanderbilt and SEC Records for Career Receiving Yardage as he finished the season first in the SEC and third in the Nation for receiving yardage for that season. He played in the Ricoh Japan Bowl that same year where he was the leading receiver in that game. Following his career at Vanderbilt, “Coach Boo” chose to pursue a career in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks, but it was quickly ended due to a severe shoulder injury.
“Coach Boo” is now the father of three children and lives and works in the Gwinnett County area of Atlanta, Georgia. He is a Certified GHSA (Georgia High School Association) football coach, and he has been coaching both High School and Youth football for seventeen years. He has won the Gwinnett County Touchdown Club Assistant Coach of the Year Award, won a State Championship Ring as an Assistant Coach at Peachtree Ridge High School, and won two National Championship rings with the Northeast Georgia Team as the Offensive Coordinator for the 8th Grade FBU (Football University) National Tournament. He has a passion for working with children and has formerly been appointed and served on the Board of Directors for the Gwinnett County Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS).
In addition to coaching both youth and high school players, “Coach Boo” has also served as Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, and Defensive Coordinator of the Atlanta Explosion and the Atlanta Phoenix of the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA), and as a Defensive Back Coach and Defensive Coordinator for the Atlanta Predators of the NFL Developmental League. As a professional performance trainer, “Coach Boo” has continually worked with aspiring professional football players and current NFL, CFL, and AFL players on various teams, and he has assisted with various CFL teams in putting on try-outs throughout the metro-Atlanta area.
“Coach Boo” has continued his personal quest to remain physically fit by competing in competitive bodybuilding for eleven years where he earned his Pro Card with the SNBF in 2007, and he has also set four State Records with the USAPL in 2012 for Powerlifting. He is very active with lifting, coaching and training on a daily basis.
